Move over diamonds, pearls are officially a girl’s best friend! According to new research we conducted with Thorntons, a third of 18 – 24-year olds have snapped up a pearl accessory in the last six months.


So, to celebrate the stylish rise of this coveted accessory and the launch of the new Thorntons Pearls, we reimagined some of the most iconic pearl looks from over the decades with one very special twist… all of the jewellery was created entirely from chocolate. The looks recreated were Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Kate Middleton and Rihanna.


The edible treasures took Thorntons head chocolate makers and chocolate food artist Prudence Staite a total of 135 hours to make, using 781 individual, hand-crafted chocolate pearls.  


We also enlisted the sartorial power of celebrity stylist Nisha Grewal who styled the shoot and shared her thoughts on the resurging trend.


The photoshoot of these amazing images was complimented by wider research looking at women’s attitudes and influences towards pearls.
